A toddler in a Jeep who was missing after a man took the instrument from a southwest Houston Walmart Thursday has been found safe this morning strapped in his car seat, about a erase from the store.
Houston Police officers and volunteers had been searching for the missing 17-month old before a man phoned 911 about 8:30 a.m. to communication the car parked behind his restaurant with the boy inside.
Authorities took Evan Montgomery Miller, 17 months old, to Texas Children's Infirmary to be checked out. His mother, Niah O'Neil , was with him. Police said the toddler appeared OK and in good health.
Terron Henry, owner of Cool Runnings restaurant at 8270 West Bellfort, found the boy sleeping in his car seat and asked a 911 dispatcher if he could take him out of the car. Henry, who has a 14-month-old daughter, took the toddler up the river and wrapped him in his jacket.
The restaurateur said he heard about the missing car, but didn't skilled in about the child inside. "I'm just happy the baby is alive and they can get their baby back," Henry said, adding he doesn't reckon himself a hero.
