The termination of a toddler years in a fall from a flat, Queensland Kidsafe generated warning that the balconies are as potentially painful for small children than residential pools.
The youth has dropped by more than seven meters of apartment plan b mask Cape Alexandra on the Sunshine Coast on Thursday.
A party of emergency worked frantically to save him, but he died later that night at Noble's Hospital in Brisbane Children's.
Dr Mark Stokes, national president of the young group Kidsafe accident prevention, said that due to the increase in apartment developments throughout the country, hundreds of thousands of small balconies were literally death traps for underdeveloped young children.
"Most of these have small balconies essentially a combination of table and chairs, which, if left against the safety rail can act as a single package for toddlers," Dr Stokes said.
"A child may climb without effort on a chair and then on top of table, placing them in a very dangerous situation.
