My Ipod Touch is stolen. HELP!?

Question: My ipod drink has been stolen. I do not have a mobile me account set up. If I set it up now, will I be able to get it back? Also, airplane mode was turned on, so will that keep mobile me from working? Any advise will be greatly appreciated.
