A few years ago I taught myself to interweave. Boy, did I grow a few dendrites what with all the counting of rows and attempts to decipher knitting patterns. (That’s math for me in a disguised, more palatable grow.) Over time I worked my way up the yarn ladder beginning with misshapen hats, and in fine graduating to well-knit baby sweaters. (Sadly, my gift often was completed lengthy after an infant had outgrown it. But it sure looked pretty!)
Mastering a new skill brings happiness, while expanding brain function and cognition. I test myself with something fresh, and this year it’s about knowledge to play a musical instrument. A $200 piano purchased on Craigslist kept my new sideline affordable, and practicing in a basement room prevented my learning curve from disrupting the house-broken peace.
