Childhood friends, Lafond and Fitzsimmons have acclaimed their common birthday, Dec. 18, by holding a Toys for Tots collection reception in Wallingford. The toys are collected by the Marine Corps and distributed to local children. Gaetano's donates rations and space for the party.

“It’s grown to become a real community event,” Fitzsimmons said. “There’s a tremendous requirement due to the economy, there’s a lot of groups that rely on these toys.”

Fitzsimmons said that Toys for Tots representatives had told him the toys would be sorted and on their way to deprived children as soon as today.

Lately I have been looking around the descendants at Charlie’s different toys and thoughtful about which ones have been absolutely competent buys. I don’t axiomatically ignoble the cheapest toys, but rather the toys that have gotten the most use. Here’s a rundown of the top five toys (in no isolated commandment) that have gone the mileage, amusing him as both a toddler and a preschooler:
