SOQUEL --" At the first of the season, Soquel High's wrestling team had its back pinned against the partition off, figuratively speaking. It was coachless and, therefore, homeless.
Talk about a late volte-face. The small-roster Knights wound up getting a pristine off-campus swiftness --" one with professionally cleaned mats --" and a top-notch coach.
Record the saviors of the program: Francis Farley and Jimmie Walker.
Farley had the means to accommodate the team at his gym --" Farley's Kickboxing Academy on South Rodeo Gulch Street in Soquel --" and one of his employees, Walker, had the wrestling know-how.
"Jimmie is doubtlessly the best coach in the area," said Knights standout Will McTighe, who also competed for Walker at New Brighton Midriff School. "You can't get much better than that. It's an advantage to have him in your corner."
Walker --" a former standout at Los Gatos High-priced who won the Central Coast Section title in 1984 and placed at the CIF articulate tournament in 1984 and '85 --" competed for the University of Wisconsin in his hey-day. He teaches a one-hour wrestling sort at Farley's gym.
